The opening keynote of Apple’s annual WWDC 2024 conference in June revealed software and technology innovations across the portfolio. Big things will be happening, especially in the field of artificial intelligence. It won’t avoid Apple’s computers, of course.
Apple Intelligence will appear in mobile phones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers from Apple. But unfortunately, only overseas for now. Europe, through the EU’s Digital Markets Regulation (DMA), requires major manufacturers to allow competing products and services to run on their devices. Apple doesn’t want to allow this because it would then be unable to protect users’ privacy and security. The arrival of Apple Intelligence in Europe is therefore postponed for the time being.
Nevertheless, we can at least summarise what news will be coming when this contradiction is resolved.

What macOS 15 Sequoia will bring
New macOS 15 Sequoia is coming to Macs this autumn. Here, too, we should see many AI-assisted improvements, but also something extra. It’s mainly the linking of the Mac with the iPhone for better work continuity, a separate Passwords app or a smarter Safari browser. There’s also a new preview option for presenters and overall greater clarity on the desktop. Messaging, Photos, Calendar, Calculator, Weather, and other popular apps will also see updates.
New horizons for continuity: A feature called iPhone Mirroring allows access to your iPhone from your Mac. The user can see his iPhone on the computer and control it without having to unlock the phone. For example, you can launch any application from the Mac, play audio from the iPhone, and view all of its content. And you can even easily drag and drop any file from your Mac onto your iPhone right on the screen.
Organize and prioritize features and notifications: If you use Mirroring on your Mac, you’ll see notifications from your iPhone alongside notifications from your computer. You can react to them and deal with them. Again, there will be an option to limit them in focus mode.
Safari enhancements: When you browse the web, Safari automatically recognises relevant information and highlights it. This will apply to content like instructions or quick links. The feature will be available in US English. Similarly, if Safari registers that there is a video on the page you are browsing, it will center and highlight it. The reader, with its modernized design, will in turn provide a summary of the page to see if it’s worth reading.
Clarity: You’ll be able to arrange windows side by side like tiles by dragging them to the edge.
Presenter Preview: This feature allows users to see exactly what they’ll be sharing in video chat apps before they display it for others.
Notes: The program allows you to create transcripts of audio recordings that can be easily searched or combined with notes, lists or various documents. You can sort and color-code your notes.
Safety first
The standalone Passwords app will be improved for advanced protection and management of access data of all kinds. Everything will be connected across devices and more transparent. It will make it easier to filter and search for accounts by, for example, when they were created, type of authentication or whether the account is in a shared group.
Data protection hasn’t been left out either. The Mac will offer an improved privacy settings menu that makes it easier to determine what apps you share your personal information with, for example, and what that information will be.
The aforementioned iPhone Mirroring feature also adds to the security of your iPhone and Mac. With it enabled, you can work with your iPhone on your Mac screen without unlocking your phone. It’s safe from unwelcome snoopers.
